Asking Cherryl to guide me thru painting pink Wild Roses on one of Mom's plates, I started the flowers for the first fire. Sketch in flower petals with paint. Cross-hatch Mixing Yellow for centers, then paint petals using Soft Pink and Soft Rose. Wipe out for the center green oval, painting in with Chartreuse. Wipe out a small window in green oval. Take wipe out tool or brush and create pistons, but not too many! Fire .016

2nd Fire Begin the 2nd fire by drawing in placement for stems and leaves. With Black Green mixed with Cobalt or Ruby, frame flowers in three places, especially where stems and leaves are to be placed. Paint in stems and wipe out parts with brush. Paint leaves using Chartreuse and Antique Green, add a bit of tan or ruby if desired. Paint in small dots for pistons and a few lines connecting them to center of flowers. Using Chartreuse, Yellow Red and Pecan. Fire: .017

3rd Fire Add depth around flowers and on also on petals. Add Mixing Yellow, Soft Pink or Soft Rose, and Deep Blue Green to background and use as wash over leaves and some petals, noting where the light is on the piece. Add more twigs to stems if desired. Fire. .017 Note: After firing this piece at .016 because of the Soft Rose I had used on the petals for depth, I discovered it was too hot for my Yellow Red. As you can see, the YR dots are burned! So I am going to try repairing this by winking off the flowers. I surrounded the flowers with nail polish to protect the rest of the painting. Here goes!
